Richard W. Dycus, D.D.S., M.A.G.D. received his B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Tennessee Tech University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Dycus has been practicing dentistry for over 20 years. He keeps abreast of current dental and health issues by avidly pursuing continuing education. This is evidenced by his receiving the Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. This prestigious award is given to only those dentists who have completed over 1100 hours of continuing education in many specific fields of dentistry and have successfully passed the Fellowship Exam. From the award's inception, only approximately 2300 dentists have ever achieved this award. Dr. Dycus joins the ranks of these successful, well educated, informed dentists. Dycus, D.D.S., M.A.G.D.Meet the DentistDr. Dycus remains active in the Professional Dental Associations to improve access to dental care, lobby for patient rights, and to take Continuing Education. He currently serves on the Tennessee Dental Association Board of Trustees, the AGD Council on Dental Practice, the ADA Council on Dental Benefits, and is Delegate to both the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) from Tennessee. He has most recently been appointed as Regional Director of Region 6 of the AGD. This region consists of the states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and West Virginia. He also holds national positions for the AGD as a Consultant to the Access to Care Task Force, and a member of the Dental Care Council and the Professional Relations Committee. Dr. Dycus is the Past President of the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry where he served two terms as President. He currently sits on the Governmental Affairs Council and the Membership Council for the Tennessee Dental Association. In recent years he has served on the PACE Committee for the AGD, served as Reference Committee Chair for the AGD Annual Session 2006, for the Advocacy Reference Committee on the national level as well as numerous years on Reference committees for the AGD. Dr. Dycus has served as Reference Committee Chair TDA 2006 as well as several previous times as member of the Reference committee. Previous National Service for the AGD includes Legislative and Governmental Affairs Council (6 years, Oral Health Literacy Task Force (3 years), PACE Committee (3 yrs), Consultant to LGA (2 yrs), and Professional Relations Task Force (2 yrs). Previous service to the TDA includes Middle Tennessee Vice President, President of the 4th District, numerous terms as delegate, TN D PAC, LGA Committee, Peer Review, Dental Care, Annual Session committee, Annual Session Program co-Chair TDA 2006. Previous service to the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry includes President, President Elect, Vice President, Continuing Education Chairman, Annual Session Chairman, Program Approvals Coordinator, Board of Trustees, Legislative Chair, Membership Chair, Public Information Chair, Nomination committee, and Sponsor Approval Coordinator Committee. In Dr. Dycus'’ second term as TN AGD President the TN AGD won the Constituent of the Year Award, The Legislative Award, The PIO Award, the Membership Award, the CE Award, and honorable mention for the Newsletter. Essentially, TN AGD swept all categories of awards for the National AGD! Dr. Dycus' honors include being named Tennessee Dentist of the Year for 2009-2010. He has recieved his Fellowship and Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Dycus has also been awarded Fellowships in the Tennessee Dental Association, American College of Dentists, and Academy of Dentistry International. In addition to Dr. Dycus’ professional activities, he has served his community in various capacities. He as served as Sponsoring Organization Representative for Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts of America, and Girl Scouts of America. Dr. Dycus is an Eagle Scout with Palms and Order of the Arrow member. He has served our community on several civic organizations, commissions, and committees. He has been very active in politics both locally and nationally. He currently serves on Tennessee Tech University’s Pre-Professional Board, President’s Club, and TTU Pre-Dental Mentor. In the past he has served on the Dean’s Committee for the University of Tennessee and has served on the Alumni Committee for UT. Dr. Dycus has been married to Dr. Patty (Moody) Dycus for over twenty five years. They have 2 children and one dog. Patty was a past professor of Chemical Engineering at Tennessee Tech University, and following the birth of their son, is now an Adjunct Chemistry Professor for TTU. Their daughter Megan is a student at ETSU and wil begin Medical School in the Fall of 2011. Will is a student at Capshaw Elementary School. |
